I retired from LaKing Trucking in Lima, OH in Nov. 02. We had switched to Quality CArriers prior to Matlack going "belly up". I now am a member of the executive committee of our county fairboard. On a lot of other committees. We spend time with our Haflinger horses, the ponies and our grandkids. I miss the comaraderie of the people in the trucking industry but I sure don't miss all the problems. I would like to say that the people in Matlack headquarters were a lot more on the ball than the QC people. Too bad Matlack didn't have people at the helm that were good business people instead of Tripp and his henchman Bonacci. Take care.

Not unlike some of you, I think about Matlack everyday. Some days, this is simply because I still wear a "Matlack 100" hat. I left the day Mike Stritch was introduced to his replacement. 015 is like family to me. In many respects I grew up there. Not that I wasn't of legal age upon arival, just that I learned and earned a right of passage. Guys like Bob Jenkins (first 015 TM), Clifford "Mr. C" Young, "Smile'n" Lee Milam, Chris Haltom, Donny "don't pee till it's runnin down your leg" Reckers, Bobby "Bayou Bandit" Grimes, Carl "June Bug" Ladd, Mike Powell, Dave Jackson, of course Mike Stritch and others are what made 015 and Matlack what it used to be. Upon my departure, I spent 3mos with CSX BIDS, 1 year at Quality Carriers and 3 years commercial fishing and messing around with boats. Now I work for North Dakota State University. I'm on staff with the dept. of Architecture and Landscape Architecture as the studio technician. If your ever at NDSU in Fargo ND just ask about the redneck with the green hat... I'm the ONLY one out here. I really do wear a Matlack 100 hat. Gary H. I finally grew up... I think? I know I was a pain in the "Biblical era mode of transportation" at times. I want you to know I always respected you. In 8 years I saw the Pipline go from the leader to a struggler. The Day Mike was introduced to his replacement, I knew it was over. I have my own opinions as to the what and why of it all... but it's over now either way. Like the Pipline, Bobby Grimes and Chris Haltom are no longer with us. I've not heard from the others in years and hope all is well for them. I'm hoping to soon splash my 33' Chris Craft in Duluth and make the passage through the Great lakes, Erie Canal, Hudson River and south back to North Carolina.

Well folks, It's been an interesting journey since Matlack closed it's doors in 1999 (Norwich, CT Terminal 087. I moved to Florida and remarried in 2000. My wife being a Nursing Professor has been the saving grace of my life! We stayed in Florida for 2&1/2 yrs and then on to Eastern Tennessee for 2 more yrs. Beautiful country that Tennessee. I loved it there! We moved on to Rochester, NY in the summer of 2004. My wife wanted to be near family. Soooo, here we are making the best of the winters and the open spaces of western New York. Doing Handyman work for others and remodeling our home continuously! Miss all the people I use to work with. Spent 27 years with Matlack. Have met some very interesting people while there. Had 7 Terminal Mgr in 27 years. Can honestly say that Jay Jourdan was the best and the most dedicated manager in my trucking career of about 35 years total. Would welcome emails from anyone that was in the Matlack System.

I worked as terminal manager in New Castle (with Mike Dailey) for a short time after the Eastern Region was eliminated. I was downsized from Matlack in early '96 as Mike and I were stepping on each other and there really was no place for me. Deciding that the transportation industry was not my gig, I decided to go back to my roots in aviation. I have been working on the Joint Strike Fighter program since 1996. There were good people at Matlack, and I was sad to see it go.

Hello Ex-Matlack employees. It has been 5 years since we all have been at Matlack and I still say that I miss it. I would do anything for John Byrne to come back and call me Robin Rebill again or Donna Smith and Phyllis Driscoll to come back and ask for my expertise on rates. Ha Ha. I want to here Gene Hitchens say just one more time, "The only boss I have is a carpenter". And who doesn't want to here Mack and Kitty go at it again? We had fun, I just wish I would have tried to enjoy it more while it was going on but that is life. My daughter Jackie is 16 years old and driving me nuts with the cell phone in her ear and on the computer constantly. Needless to say she has the smart mouth also. Boy I can't wait until she gets through this stage. I swear I wasn't like that when I was her age. She really is a good kid. My son, Donnie is 11 years old. He plays a lot of sports. Thank God he likes sports because my daughter is a girly girl. How that happened I don't know. I work at Pilot Air Freight with my sister. I like it a lot. It reminds me of Matlack but nothing can replace it. The Matlack memories will be with me forever.Hope all is well with everyone.

I miss Matlack, Jimmy Kinnevy & I had so much fun at Bensalem it wasn't like work. I have hired many Matlack expatriates here at DX and they all tell me "you can't be the same Mike Dailey that managed Bensalem, he was a real ...." I guess I learned somethings while working at Rollins/Laidlaw/Safety Kleen.

Oct 2001 went to work at CTL Distribution, Mulberry Fl., Safety Department, as Director of Training & Orientation. Jan 2004 went part time, 3 days a week, as Special Projects Manager. Enjoy working at CTL, reminds me of Matlack, when I first started. Enjoy the weather down here, don't have to worry about removing snow and prolonged cold temperatures. Have 3 grand-kids down here - Samantha a Junior at Palm Beach Atlantic, Ashley a Sophmore at East Tennessee State University (ETSU) on a soccer scholarship - Had a terrific first year, and Charlie a Senior at George Jenkins High School, also into soccer as a keeper. Have done a lot of running around to watch them in various school activities. Up north in Lansdale Pa, have two other grand-kids, Megan who is in 7th grade and plays softball & soccer and Brendan who is 6 years old and also plays baseball and soccer. When we are not involved with the grand-kids its up to Disney and other activities in the area. Needless to say, had the opportunity to work with a lot of top drawer employees at Matlack, and miss the friendships developed over my 36 years there. Best of luck to all of you.

I am still doing some work for Trimac, but it is not as good as it Matlack was. Kevin and I have the bike shop and am into building some bikes. One we built a few years back, made the cover of the November 2005 issue of Biker Magazine. Has a nice looking model sitting on it. The pictures are on our website, www.bankcycle.com. We install the "Glorified training wheels" on bikes for olsters that are no longer able to hold the bikes up safely. My bike is on the web site also. I am still transferring cullet to rail cars that I did when Matlack. This is a good steady work. Waste from Monsanto is sparse as the person in charge that gave me so much work, is no longer there and the new guy is more concerned in the bottom line than in service. We purchased a motorhome about 5 years ago and do quite a bit of week end travelling. Went to Ellis Island this year and other places, ie, Atlantic City, then had a fuel pump go out and got to spend a week end in Pittsburg waiting for parts. I kind of enjoyed the touring around town.

I've still got my Formula Ford.....parked in a barn in Reading. I figure that by the time I get to race again, I'll need to wear a "Depends" under the Nomex.

Married Dave Dave in 1998 and moved to Kennett Square. After 6 years of very happy marriage he was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in Sept. 2004. He died May 12, 2005. It was a very difficult time, and I'm still struggling, but trying to keep busy. Started my Real Estate career with Beiler-Campbell in Kennett about 4 years ago and am enjoying it very much. Call me if you or anyone you know wants to buy or sell a house - I'm also licensed in Delaware. (610/444-7843). What happened about the get-together?

In memory of my grandfather, ROLAND C SMITH, who passed away on 10/16/2006. A driver, dispatcher and manager from 1956 to 1974. He served at the West Chester, Lester, Albany, Selkirk and Delaware City terminals (that I know of). I know "Rol" was proud of his career and fond of the men and women he served with. Many of my early memories of him include those "big green trucks" which he later tought me to drive. If you knew Roland, please email me as I would like to hear from you. I can also pass messages on to my grandmother, Dotty Smith, who was also a Matlack employee. Roland's obituary can be viewed at http://www.drsfh.com/obituaries_view.php. Thank you. Michael L. At Matlack, most of my time was dedicated to responding to some sort of spill. Having grown weary of cleaning up someone else's messes, I left Matlack to head to law school. Now I am an attoney in Denver (cleaning up other people's messes). Kidding ... sort of. In December 2005, Kyung and had our first (and I am advised only) child, Piper Noelle.

Life’s been good since Matlack. I work for an engineering firm and get to design some really interesting things and travel to some really interesting places. Our company has a nuclear division and a plant design / industrial gas division: my side of the business. Our projects take us all over the world. I’ve traveled to Singapore, Malaysia, Mexico, etc. for work (not to mention good old Lake Charles). Godda say, the jet lag is worse to Asia than to Houston! We just finished designing and supporting the construction for a Fluorine plant in South Korea (scary stuff!!). Business is booming and we’re having a great time. For fun, my wife and I like to bicycle. We’ve biked some pretty exotic locations like Cambodia and Thailand. Mostly though we’re just cruising the local back roads.
